What Paint Correction Actually Does
Paint correction is the process of removing imperfections from your vehicle’s clear coat using machine polishing. Unlike waxing (which just covers imperfections), correction permanently removes them by leveling the surface of the clear coat.
The Three Grades of Paint Correction
One-Stage (Enhancement Polish)
A single pass with a medium-cut polish and a polishing pad. This removes 50-70% of surface imperfections and adds significant gloss.
- Best for: Vehicles in decent condition with light swirling and minor scratches
- Time: 3-5 hours
- Cost: $250 – $450
Two-Stage (Full Correction)
Two passes — first a cutting compound to level deeper defects, then a finishing polish to refine the surface. Removes 85-95% of imperfections.
- Best for: Vehicles with moderate swirling, visible scratches, water spot etching, or oxidation
- Time: 6-10 hours
- Cost: $450 – $800
Multi-Stage (Show-Car Correction)
Three or more passes with progressively finer compounds and polishes. Removes 95-99% of imperfections.
- Best for: Show cars, enthusiast vehicles, or severely neglected paint
- Time: 12-20+ hours (often spread across 2 days)
- Cost: $800 – $1,500+
What to Do After Paint Correction
Correction without protection is temporary. Once the paint is perfected, protect it immediately with ceramic coating (2-5+ years), paint sealant (6-12 months), or carnauba wax (2-3 months).
We always recommend pairing paint correction with ceramic coating for long-lasting results. Learn more about our paint correction service or call (504) 399-1448 for a free estimate.
